EU, Hareer Organization Partner to End Violence Against Women in Madaba

Madaba: Hareer Organization organized a workshop, themed: "Ending Violence Against Women" at the American University of Madaba. The event was attended by Deputy Head of the EU Delegation, Angela Martini, as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness and strengthen women's empowerment.

According to Jordan News Agency, Martini emphasized that gender-based violence remains one of the most widespread human rights violations globally. She noted that addressing this phenomenon requires coordinated global and national efforts to curb and eliminate such abuses. The European Union considers combating violence against women and girls a strategic priority, implementing supportive policies, legal protection, psychological and health services, and awareness campaigns to promote respect for women's rights.

Madaba Health Directorate Director Amani Al-Farah remarked that violence against women is a "humanitarian, rights-based, and developmental issue that affects families and society." Highlighting Jordan's focus on the issue, she stated that protecting women from violence aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision and is essential for productivity, justice, and equal opportunities.

Director General of Hareer Organization Nihad Dabbas advocated for holding awareness workshops across all governorates and universities, emphasizing that raising awareness of gender-based violence is a "social necessity." He stressed that empowering women and girls begins with knowledge of their rights.

Acting President of the American University of Madaba, Adi Arida, underscored the importance of supporting such initiatives and backing women at all levels. He urged collective support and expressed the university's openness to steps that enhance women's participation and empowerment.
