Amman: MPs of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee met Wednesday with the Malaysian Ambassador to the Kingdom, Muhammad Abdul Rahman, to discuss ties and cooperation. Committee head MP Haitham Ziyadin said that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, is keen to develop relations with friendly nations, including Malaysia, to serve shared interests.
According to Jordan News Agency, Ziyadin praised Malaysia's development experience and the progress it has achieved at various levels. He expressed a desire to strengthen relations between Amman and Kuala Lumpur across all sectors, particularly parliamentary, economic, trade, educational, tourism, and industrial fields. Ziyadin also highlighted the need to benefit from Malaysia's development experience to enhance investment opportunities and trade exchange.
Ziyadin noted that Jordan possesses significant investment advantages, as well as security and stability factors that position it as an economic gateway and a regional hub attractive to investment. He called for expanding cooperation with Malaysia and capitalizing on opportunities available in both countries. Ziyadin reaffirmed Jordan's stance on the Palestinian issue and the need to protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, lauding Malaysia's support for Palestinian rights in international forums.
Abdul Rahman, in turn, praised the strong historical relations between the two countries and expressed Malaysia's keenness to develop ties with Jordan, especially in the parliamentary, economic, trade, investment, cultural, tourism, and educational sectors. He noted that Jordan represents an important economic gateway for Malaysia and the region, emphasizing the role of Asia as a central driver of the global economy.
Abdul Rahman reiterated Malaysia's support for the Palestinian cause, expressing appreciation for Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in promoting security and stability in the region. Members of the committee, including Dina Bashir, Tamara Nasser Al Din, Iman Abbasi, Ali Gharawi, and Mohammad Sabaileh, called for building on the advanced relations between Jordan and Malaysia and expanding cooperation in parliamentary affairs.
They emphasized coordination in regional and international parliamentary forums to unify positions on issues of common interest. The MPs commended Malaysia's support for the Palestinian cause and Jordan's custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem. They highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination with friendly countries that support a just and comprehensive peace, in line with Jordan's positions in defending Arab causes and promoting regional security and stability.
The MPs called for expanding economic and investment cooperation, particularly in higher education, technology, renewable energy, tourism, and the exchange of expertise. They underscored the importance of building on existing memoranda of understanding, increasing Malaysian investments, and capitalizing on Jordan's competitive advantages. Committee members noted that Malaysia serves as a model in tourism, education, and scientific research, underscoring the importance of benefiting from its experience and expertise.
The committee's chair and members committed to exerting effort to expand cooperation between Jordan and Malaysia across all sectors. They emphasized the committee's continued support for this direction through its diplomatic, parliamentary, and coordinating roles.
