Amman: Jordan and India issued a joint statement at the conclusion of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jordan, highlighting deepened cooperation between the two nations.
According to Jordan News Agency, the visit marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The leaders expressed satisfaction with the bilateral relationship characterized by mutual trust and cooperation across various sectors, including political, economic, defense, security, culture, and education.
The statement acknowledged the regular political dialogue and meetings between the two countries, while emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The two sides committed to sustaining the positive trajectory of their relations and fostering high-level interactions. Economic cooperation was a key focus, with a bilateral trade engagement of USD 2.3 billion in 2024. Both nations agreed on the need to diversify the trade basket and planned the convening of the 11th Trade and Economic Joint Committee in early 2026.
The statement also highlighted technology and education collaboration, with both sides agreeing to work on digital transformation initiatives and enhance infrastructure and capacity building programs. In the health sector, both countries pledged to collaborate on telemedicine and health workforce training. The agricultural sector was recognized for its role in food security, and increased collaboration in fertilizers and technology exchange was agreed upon.
Water cooperation featured prominently, with the signing of an MoU on Water Resources Management and Development. The leaders also discussed climate change, environment, and sustainable development, welcoming an MoU on New and Renewable Energy. Cultural cooperation was celebrated, with the signing of a Cultural Exchange Programme and a Twinning Agreement between Petra and Ellora Caves Site.
Connectivity and multilateral cooperation were acknowledged as crucial for fostering bilateral relations. Jordan expressed interest in joining India's International Solar Alliance and other global initiatives. The visit concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and a commitment to continued collaboration for the benefit of both nations.
