Ministry, UN Discuss Youth Empowerment, Skills Development

Amman: Secretary-General of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Marwan Rifai, met with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs and Head of the UN Youth Office, Felipe Paullier, in the presence of UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan, Sheri Ritsema-Anderson. Rifai emphasized the government's dedication to empowering youth through quality education and skills development that meet labor market needs, in addition to fostering economic opportunities and enabling participation in decision-making processes as part of ongoing modernization efforts. He also highlighted the vital role of the private sector in creating job opportunities for young Jordanians.

According to Jordan News Agency, Paullier detailed initiatives by the UN Youth Office to enhance youth engagement in sustainable development. He pointed out that the UN Youth Strategy is the main framework guiding international efforts to bolster youth involvement in governance, education, skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, and rights protection.

Paullier stressed that the UN Youth Office plays a coordinating role among agencies and builds partnerships to invest in youth capabilities, while also promoting their involvement in climate action and environmental sustainability.
