Amman: Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi on Wednesday welcomed National Council for Family Affairs Secretary-General Mohammad Miqdadi to discuss ways of supporting organizations working on family and community issues and protecting Jordanian social values. Qadi pledged cooperation with the council on various matters, including those related to the elderly, protection from domestic violence, and childhood.
According to Jordan News Agency, Qadi emphasized the legislature’s openness to proposals on legislation or initiatives aimed at correcting societal misconceptions and improving the quality of services in family-related domains. Miqdadi highlighted that the council is a national institution focused on proposing policies and legislation, as well as preparing specialized studies and research on issues such as the elderly, domestic violence protection, and childhood.
The council, in collaboration with several national bodies, has developed national policies, including the Third National Strategy for the Elderly and its implementation plan, which recently received the cabinet’s endorsement. This strategy aims to enhance the level of services provided to the elderly, particularly in areas such as recreational services, day care, and healthcare, Miqdadi noted.
Furthermore, the council is in the process of formulating the National Policy for Child Welfare, which aligns with the economic modernization vision. This policy addresses women’s employment issues and aims to create a family- and child-friendly environment, thereby fostering conditions that empower women and enhance the family’s role in social development, Miqdadi added.
