Education Minister Opens New al-Hashemi al-Shamali School Building in Marka District

Amman: Minister of Education, Azmi Mahafzah, inaugurated the new building of al-Hashemi al-Shamali Co-ed Elementary School in Marka District. The new facility, constructed with support from the German government through the German Development Bank (KfW), is part of a broader school construction initiative.

According to Jordan News Agency, the facility comprises 22 classrooms and can accommodate over 800 students, including 124 Syrian students. This construction aims to eliminate the double-shift system and alleviate overcrowding at nearby schools, with a total capacity reaching 850 students as stated by the minister.

The initiative underscores the collaboration between Jordanian institutions and international partners to bolster the education sector. The opening ceremony saw attendance from officials of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Development (BMZ), the KfW, the Marka District Education Directorate, and representatives from the local community.

The project also resulted in the closure of a rented school and addressed overcrowding issues in three other schools, enhancing the educational environment for both students and teachers. Mahafzah extended gratitude to the German government and KfW for their ongoing support. He highlighted that a total of 29 million pounds has been allocated for the construction of six modern schools across Jordan. These schools are designed to include modern features such as sustainable solar energy systems and inclusive spaces for students with disabilities, ensuring a comprehensive and safe learning environment.
