Amman: Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal, Honorary President of Save the Children – Jordan, recently sponsored a ceremony commemorating the organization’s 50th anniversary, marked by the theme “Fifty Years for the Children of Jordan and We Continue.” The event underscored the organization’s enduring dedication to Jordan’s children and its historical roots in the Jordanian Child Care Association established in 1974.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa and Maha Ali, Secretary-General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women. The event showcased five decades of significant outreach work in refugee camps, remote villages, and vulnerable communities. Annually, Save the Children – Jordan impacts approximately 150,000 children and families, providing essential humanitarian aid, sustainable development programs, and empowerment initiatives that foster advocacy for children’s rights.
Princess Basma emphasized the organization’s alignment with the global Save the Children 2030 goals, which aim to end preventable child deaths, guarantee access to quality education for all children, and eradicate violence against children. She highlighted the increasing challenges facing children globally, particularly due to conflict, trafficking, and climate change, with a specific focus on the situation of children in Gaza.
Chairman Omar Shuqom highlighted Save the Children – Jordan’s unique position as the sole branch of the international organization in the region and its role as a leading national reference in child protection. He also announced the launch of the 2025-2027 strategy, which focuses on sustainability, community empowerment, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Executive Director Dana Uraiqat reiterated the organization’s commitment to protecting and empowering children, emphasizing that the youth are not merely recipients but active contributors in shaping initiatives that resonate with their aspirations.
The anniversary event featured a documentary chronicling the organization’s 50-year journey, with children’s artistic performances and an exhibition of drawings and photographs showcasing their voices and creativity. The ceremony was attended by representatives from various ministries, partner organizations, embassies, and the private sector.
