Amman: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s UEG Green Hydrogen Development Holding Limited to explore the feasibility of a $1.155 billion green hydrogen production project in Jordan. This agreement marks a significant step towards advancing Jordan’s clean energy objectives.

According to Jordan News Agency, the MoU was signed by Minister of Energy Saleh Kharabsheh and United Energy Group Vice President Lei Guimin. Kharabsheh emphasized that the agreement aligns with Jordan’s strategic shift towards renewable energy and is expected to enhance the nation’s investment climate. He also expressed the ministry’s willingness to collaborate with the company in other sectors, such as gas and oil.

The feasibility study will focus on the production of 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually for export purposes. This will involve the use of desalinated seawater and renewable energy harnessed from Jordan’s most optimal locations. The study will further detail the land requirements and technical phases necessary for the project’s execution.

Vice President Lei Guimin expressed gratitude to the Jordanian ministry for its confidence in UEG Green Hydrogen Development Holding Limited. He highlighted the company’s experience in the region, particularly through its operations in Iraq.
