Amman: The Jordanian-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Association, led by MP Abdul Hadi Brizat, held a meeting with Gleb Desyatnikov, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Jordan, to explore avenues for expanding parliamentary cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations in various sectors.
According to Jordan News Agency, Brizat emphasized the role of parliamentary friendship associations in both nations as vital tools for enhancing ties and aligning positions in international parliamentary forums. This reflects the longstanding partnership between Jordan and Russia, which is based on mutual respect and collaboration.
Brizat pointed out the historical ties between the two countries, which have the support of His Majesty King Abdullah II and President Vladimir Putin. These relations have been developing steadily, especially after the signing of a reciprocal visa waiver agreement and the preparations for the forthcoming session of the Jordanian-Russian Joint Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation in Moscow.
Representatives Issa Nassar, Ahmed Dawaima, and Hussein Krishan reiterated the strength of the Jordanian-Russian relationship, highlighting the significance of expanding educational cooperation through Russian scholarships, which have benefited over 1,500 Jordanians. They also noted the potential for increased cultural, economic, investment, and tourism collaboration, as well as partnerships in technology, digital transformation, automation, and cybersecurity.
The lawmakers expressed support for His Majesty’s consistent stances on regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause. They acknowledged Russia’s backing for a just and comprehensive peace process and its efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid. The importance of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding and regional stability was underlined.
Ambassador Desyatnikov conveyed Russia’s appreciation for its relationship with Jordan and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening ties across all sectors. He expressed hope for His Majesty’s participation in the upcoming Russian-Arab Summit in October, which will include a meeting with President Putin.
Desyatnikov highlighted that high-level visits and the visa waiver agreement have been pivotal in expanding cooperation, especially in trade, tourism, and culture. He also noted the alignment of Russian and Jordanian positions on regional and international matters, with a particular focus on the Palestinian issue.
