Amman: The Parliamentary Environment and Climate Committee, chaired by MP Hamzeh Hawamdeh, met on Monday with Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Asari Hideki to discuss avenues for advancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of environment, climate action, clean energy, and water resource management.
According to Jordan News Agency, Hawamdeh highlighted the depth and longevity of Jordanian-Japanese relations, which span over 71 years and are rooted in mutual respect and shared interests across economic, cultural, and tourism sectors. He emphasized that the two countries share common values, particularly a commitment to peace and environmental stewardship, and called for leveraging Japan’s expertise in investment and economic innovation, especially in areas related to climate resilience, energy efficiency, and water sustainability.
Hawamdeh also noted the compounded challenges facing Jordan due to regional instability and refugee influxes, which have placed considerable strain on infrastructure and public services. He affirmed that the Parliamentary Environment and Climate Committee is actively engaged in reviewing and modernizing environmental legislation to align with global trends and standards.
Ambassador Hideki, for his part, expressed appreciation for the recent visit of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to Japan, describing it as a significant milestone in reinforcing bilateral ties. He noted that Japan and Jordan enjoy a “strong friendship,” reflected through ongoing collaboration and multi-level partnerships. He also praised the longstanding and distinguished relations between the Jordanian Royal Family and the Japanese Imperial Family, which underscore the deep historical and diplomatic connection between the two nations.
