Worker Trapped in Aqaba Borehole Collapse Found Dead After 13-Day Rescue

Amman: A worker trapped in the collapse of a borehole in Aqaba Governorate was found dead after a 13-day rescue operation, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said Saturday.

According to Jordan News Agency, the rescue has been ongoing since June 9 with the participation of teams from the Civil Defense, the International Search and Rescue, and the Aqaba Support Group. These entities worked in cooperation with other local authorities in a determined effort to locate the man trapped in the narrow borehole at a depth of 70 meters in the Fifth District of Aqaba Governorate.

The search and survey operations continued for 13 consecutive days, utilizing machinery and engineering equipment to reach the man. The borehole, which measured no more than 60 centimeters in diameter, posed significant challenges to the rescue teams. The PSD reported that the worker was found dead, with his body in a state of decomposition.

The PSD stated it will conduct an investigation into the incident and will implement measures to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents in the future.
