Amman: Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat emphasized the role of technology and artificial intelligence in enhancing the agricultural sector’s performance and achieving food security. The minister highlighted the importance of adopting water-saving technologies to boost production and keep pace with global developments.
According to Jordan News Agency, Hneifat inaugurated the headquarters of the Jordanian-Chinese Agricultural Company, which focuses on modern technologies. He announced that Jordan’s agricultural exports increased by 6.9% last year, reaching approximately JD1.5 billion. Hneifat underscored the government’s commitment to attracting investments in the agricultural sector as part of the Economic Modernization Vision and National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture, aiming to position Jordan as a regional food security hub.
Hneifat also mentioned that Jordan has reached high levels of self-sufficiency in various food commodities, including vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry, eggs, olive oil, and milk products. This achievement comes despite challenges such as population growth due to refugee influxes and reduced water availability for agriculture.
Dr. Majd Jibreen, Chairman of Jibreen Group, emphasized the strategic partnership with China Green Agriculture in forming the Jordanian-Chinese Agricultural Company. The company will focus on AI and Internet of Things solutions, providing modern agricultural technologies at competitive prices. Jibreen highlighted the opportunity for agricultural firms to enhance their products and farms, enabling a competitive edge globally.
Chen Li, Chairman of China Green Agriculture, discussed the company’s comprehensive offerings, including designing and operating smart agricultural gardens and developing indoor plant production plants. Key projects include King Salman Park in Saudi Arabia and a park in Wenzhou, China.
During the opening ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was signed with Jordanian companies, one of which originated from the Agricultural Innovation Incubator at the National Center for Agricultural Research, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture.
