21 People Killed in Sri Lanka Bus Crash

Kandy: At least 21 people were killed and 24 others injured on Sunday when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in central Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s Deputy Transport Minister, Prasanna Gunasinha, stated, “Twenty-one people have died, and we are working to identify the victims.” He said the injured were taken to two nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to Jordan News Agency, Sri Lankan police reported that the bus was carrying 70 passengers, far exceeding its official capacity of 50. The accident occurred at night in the hills of the Kotmale district when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The bus, operated by a public transport company, had departed from the southern city of Kataragama and was en route to Kurunegala in northwestern Sri Lanka at the time of the crash.
