Amman: The Lower House of Representatives condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ closure of the Jerusalem Fund and Endowment office in occupied Jerusalem. In a statement on Tuesday, the House declared that Israel’s decision is part of an extremist policy aimed at Judaizing the Arab city of Jerusalem and violating international laws and norms, which prohibit the occupation authorities from altering the occupied city.
According to Jordan News Agency, the House urged the government to engage with international bodies, particularly the United Nations, to pressure the Israeli authorities to reopen closed Palestinian institutions in Jerusalem. The statement highlighted that the Israeli actions against Jerusalem, its residents, and Islamic and Christian holy sites, including the desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque and attacks on worshippers, represent violations of international law and provoke millions of Muslims worldwide.
The House appealed to the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by preserving Jerusalem’s legal status and taking a decisive stance to halt the persistent Israeli violations against the Palestinian people. They called on Israel, as an occupying power, to comply with international law and warned of a dangerous escalation that could ignite the regional situation, necessitating immediate intervention to stop all Israeli violations against the Palestinians.
The statement refuted Israeli allegations justifying the closure, asserting they are false and that the Jerusalem Fund and Endowment’s activities are strictly social, humanitarian, and charitable, with no political connections. The statement criticized international silence on Israeli violations, which contravenes international norms that protect civil and humanitarian actions.
The House emphasized the importance of supporting Palestinian national institutions in Jerusalem to preserve their national identity. It also stressed the need for a broad international effort to stop Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip and prevent further Israeli actions against its people.
