Voices of the Reef Exhibition Opens at Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts

Amman: HRH Princess Wijdan Al Hashemi, President of the Royal Society of Fine Arts, inaugurated the “Voices of the Reef” exhibition at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts. The opening ceremony took place in the presence of Swiss Ambassador to Jordan, Emilija Georgieva. The exhibition is set to run until May 14 at Building 2 of the museum.

According to Jordan News Agency, the exhibition highlights the resilience of coral reefs in the Gulf of Aqaba, often called “Reefs of Hope” for their resistance to rising sea temperatures. Organized by the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Amman and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), the event showcases the work of 11 artists from Jordan and Switzerland. These artists participated in the first season of the Voices of the Reef project, a multi-year initiative aimed at raising awareness about coral reefs and the need for their protection.

The exhibition includes 92 artworks created during an artist residency held in Aqaba in May 2024. During the residency, the artists were given the opportunity to dive and explore the coral reefs of the Red Sea. This experience served as inspiration for their new and original works, which are now displayed in the exhibition.
