King Abdullah II Urges Immediate Action to Halt Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

Berlin: His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday called for urgent international intervention to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire and the resumption of humanitarian aid.

According to Jordan News Agency, during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, King Abdullah stressed the necessity of halting Israel’s military actions in Gaza. He also underscored Jordan’s efforts in providing aid to alleviate the situation and commended Germany for its support.

The King highlighted the critical need for international efforts to prevent further escalation in the West Bank, where significant displacement of Palestinians threatens regional stability. He also warned against ongoing violations of religious sites in Jerusalem, which exacerbate tensions and hinder peace prospects.

King Abdullah reiterated that a political solution based on a two-state framework is essential for ensuring peace and security in the region. He expressed appreciation for Germany’s support of this solution and their involvement in the Arab plan for Gaza’s reconstruction.

Additionally, the King discussed regional stability, emphasizing the importance of supporting Syria in maintaining its security and territorial integrity. He expressed hope for a stable Syria where refugees can return safely.

On bilateral relations, King Abdullah spoke about fruitful discussions with Chancellor Scholz aimed at enhancing the partnership between Jordan and Germany. He recapped his visit highlights, including addressing the Global Disability Summit, co-hosted by Jordan and Germany, and engaging with German economic institutions to explore cooperation in various sectors.

The King acknowledged Germany’s ongoing support in technical education, vocational training, and assistance to Syrian refugees in Jordan, emphasizing Jordan’s commitment to continuing this partnership for regional peace and stability.

King Abdullah also thanked Chancellor Scholz, nearing the end of his term, for his contributions to peace and stability in the Middle East. In response to queries about Jordanian-European relations, he noted the success of his European visits and the strengthening Arab-European ties focused on regional challenges, including the situation in Gaza and Syria.

His Majesty mentioned recent talks in Washington, DC, highlighting Arab efforts for Gaza’s comprehensive reconstruction. He expressed hope for a coordinated plan supported internationally.

Chancellor Scholz, in his remarks, acknowledged the longstanding partnership between Jordan and Germany. He praised King Abdullah’s diplomatic leadership and reiterated the urgent need to restore the Gaza ceasefire and resume humanitarian aid.

Chancellor Scholz emphasized that a political solution is crucial for lasting peace in Gaza and the West Bank. He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to the two-state solution and praised Jordan’s efforts in supporting Gaza and maintaining stability through its custodianship of Jerusalem’s holy sites.

Addressing the Syrian refugee situation, Scholz commended Jordan’s role in hosting refugees and pledged continued German support for both refugee assistance and Jordan’s economic development.

The talks were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Germany Fayez Khouri.
