Agriculture Ministry Constructs 153 Water Harvesting Structures Across Governorates

Amman: The Ministry of Agriculture has successfully constructed and maintained 153 earth dams and water harvesting ponds, with a combined capacity of four million cubic meters, as announced by Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat.

According to Jordan News Agency, the water harvesting structures have been strategically distributed across several governorates, including 16 in Amman, 31 in Mafraq, 34 in Karak, 2 in Zarqa, 40 in Ma’an, 3 in Madaba, 11 in Aqaba, and 26 in Tafileh. These initiatives were carried out in collaboration with livestock breeders and agricultural associations, focusing on arid and semi-arid regions.

The ministry has also implemented additional water barriers and gabion structures to combat soil erosion and encourage natural pasture growth, which benefits livestock. The projects are strategically positioned along various water catchment areas, aiming to sustain grazing lands and wildlife habitats, support migratory bird routes, and adapt to regional climate changes.
