Amman: The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply has reiterated the legal consequences for merchants who conceal essential goods or refuse to sell price-controlled commodities during Ramadan, warning of fines up to JD3,000.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry emphasized that applicable legislation imposes penalties on any retailer who hides basic materials or price-regulated goods from consumers, unjustifiably refuses to sell them, or charges above the established price ceiling. Violations can result in financial penalties ranging from JD1,000 to JD3,000, imprisonment for two to six months, or both, as per the statement.
The ministry also highlighted Article 11 of the Industry and Trade Law, which mandates that all merchants must clearly display prices for merchandise offered for sale, whether price-controlled or not, and adhere to these prices as maximum limits. When direct labeling is impractical, retailers must maintain a visible price list near the establishment entrance. Violations of this provision carry fines between JD100 and JD500.
As part of its Ramadan consumer awareness campaign, the ministry urged citizens to report market violations through its complaints hotline (065661176), Facebook page (facebook.com/mit.gov.jo), or official website (mit.gov.jo).
