Gaza: Head of the Palestinian government’s emergency operations room for the southern governorates, Samah Hamad, reaffirmed the strength of Jordanian-Palestinian ties and Amman’s pivotal role since the start of the war, describing Jordan as a key supporter of the Palestinian people.
According to Jordan News Agency, Hamad’s remarks came during a meeting on Monday, where the operations room hosted Jordan’s Ambassador to Palestine, Issam Bdour, along with Hussein Shibli, Secretary-General of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), who joined via video link.
Hamad expressed gratitude to Jordan’s leadership, government, and people for their ongoing humanitarian efforts in Gaza over the past 15 months. She outlined the operations room’s relief and early recovery efforts since its establishment, highlighting key interventions in shelter, aid distribution, and the challenges facing relief teams, particularly border closures, restrictions on aid and construction materials, and the denial of entry for specialized teams handling explosive remnants.
She called for the inclusion of a representative from the JHCO in the operations room to strengthen coordination and partnership.
Ambassador Bdour, in turn, denounced Israel’s closure of border crossings and blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza, calling it illegal and inhumane. He reiterated Jordan’s commitment, under royal directives, to supporting Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank while rejecting any attempts to displace them.
Shibli stressed the importance of unifying Jordanian and Palestinian relief efforts, noting the challenges of delivering aid, including the rejection of trucks by Israeli authorities and infrastructure limitations. He announced plans to coordinate with international organizations to establish additional field hospitals, deliver food parcels and tents, and collaborate with partners to manufacture prefabricated housing units.
