Amman: Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, emphasized Jordan’s commitment to providing comprehensive services for persons with disabilities, underscoring the nation’s efforts as both a national and moral responsibility, in line with directives from His Majesty King Abdullah II.
According to Jordan News Agency, Bani Mustafa’s remarks were made during a celebration hosted by the Ministry on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD). The ceremony, moderated by Sondos and Salsabil Mahmoud Saleh, aimed to evaluate the progress achieved over the years, highlighting efforts to integrate individuals with disabilities into their communities and families, while investing in their capabilities.
Bani Mustafa highlighted that these initiatives align with the 2024 theme set by the United Nations for IDPWD: “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” She detailed the ministry’s continued expansion of services, transitioning from resident
ial care to inclusive care, and ensuring financial allocations are in place to support these efforts.
To date, 27 centers for inclusive day services have been established across Jordan, catering to over 1,100 beneficiaries. Additionally, plans are in place to launch four new facilities next year, along with the introduction of 28 early intervention units, with nine more scheduled to open.
Bani Mustafa noted the Bylaw for Professionalizing Social Work, which aims to provide qualified workers to deliver quality services in line with best practices. She also emphasized the importance of collaboration among Jordanian institutions to enhance service quality and achieve an inclusive approach, aligning with the National Strategy for Shelter Alternatives.
The minister commended the significant contributions of national institutions, reflecting a growing interest in the rights of people with disabilities.
