Washington: His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday emphasized the urgent need for an enhanced international humanitarian response in Gaza during his meetings with US Congress leaders from both the Senate and House of Representatives, including chairs and members of several key committees.
According to Jordan News Agency, King Abdullah stressed the necessity for immediate action to pressure Israel to ensure the continuous and adequate flow of relief and medical aid into the Gaza Strip. He reiterated the urgency of reaching an immediate ceasefire and advocated for a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, highlighting the United States’ significant role in supporting peace efforts.
His Majesty cautioned that failing to halt the conflict in Gaza could lead to an escalation of regional tensions and perpetuate the cycle of violence. He emphasized the importance of striving for comprehensive calm in the region and called for increased efforts to ensure the suc
cess of the ceasefire in Lebanon. Furthermore, he reaffirmed Jordan’s stance against any threats to Syria’s security and stability.
The King also voiced Jordan’s rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza. He condemned violence against Palestinians by extremist settlers and the violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, demanding an immediate cessation of these actions.
Additionally, King Abdullah highlighted the dire consequences of the decision to ban UNRWA’s activities, underscoring the agency’s critical role as a lifeline for nearly 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. He stressed the importance of continued support for UNRWA.
The discussions also touched upon the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, with the King expressing appreciation for the US’ ongoing support for various development projects and programs in Jordan. The meetings were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of
His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States Dina Kawar.
