The Vision Association for Mobile Devices Investors has reported JD200 million annually in operational costs for about 2,500 mobile device showrooms across Jordan.
Ahmad Alloush, President of the Association, stated in remarks to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the costs stem from various factors, including the importation of devices and accessories, salaries for employees, utility bills such as electricity and internet, and expenses related to social media marketing, showroom decorations, and necessary equipment.
Jordan has imported roughly 1.5 million mobile devices in the past 270 days, underscoring the rising demand for smartphones and related products. The Kingdom now has an estimated 8.6 million active mobile devices, highlighting the widespread integration of technology into everyday life in Jordanian society, he added.
Alloush also noted that Jordanians spent approximately JD21 million on mobile devices and accessories via bank cards in just 180 days, reflecting the sector’s growth. He emphasiz
ed that the increasing use of electronic payments presents opportunities for business development and sustainability for mobile showrooms.
To further support the sector, Alloush called on the government to lower taxes on mobile device sales and simplify import and trade procedures, citing the need to alleviate the financial pressures on investors amid ongoing economic challenges.
