The Jordan Valley Authority held a specialized workshop on Monday to present the findings of a field survey on participatory irrigation water management.
The workshop aimed to enhance the sustainability of water distribution and improve its efficiency, in cooperation with water user associations across the Jordan Valley.
According to a statement by the authority, Secretary-General Hisham Haisa underscored the importance of the study, conducted in collaboration with the Water Sector Governance Project and multidisciplinary consultants, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
He noted that the survey’s results provide a roadmap for strengthening partnerships between the authority and farmers, aligning with the authority’s annual reports to serve the agricultural sector’s interests.
The workshop featured discussions on best practices to reinforce collaboration between the Jordan Valley Authority and farmers. This included field questionnaires distributed among farmers and au
thority employees in the region.
A representative of the Water Sector Governance Project expressed appreciation for the workshop, emphasizing its role as part of a broader initiative to improve irrigation water distribution and tackle current challenges.
The event concluded with a presentation by a private sector company on the use of artificial intelligence technologies in agriculture. This included utilizing aerial imagery and algorithms to optimize water distribution, reduce waste, and enhance crop productivity through precise fertilizer application. The presentation also highlighted technology’s role in the early detection of agricultural diseases.
