Under the title “Comprehensive Solution,” Al-Watan newspaper said in its editorial that despite the catastrophic conditions in the Gaza Strip and the overall Palestinian territories, Israeli threats of attacking Lebanon warn of another catastrophe and a new multi-dimensional war, unless the war government in Tel Aviv realizes that negotiations alone are capable of ending the conflict, not only regarding the cessation of the war on Gaza, but also to reach a just, lasting and comprehensive solution to the ongoing conflict.

The international community has recognized the harms of the Israeli approach to deal with the conflict in the Middle East. The successive recognitions of the State of Palestine, which began with Ireland, Spain and Norway, followed by other countries, have created a breach in the European resistance to Palestinian rights, even to a minimal extent. Despite the United States using its veto in the UN Security Council on April 18, 2024, to block a resolution that would pave the way for granting f
ull membership to the State of Palestine in the United Nations, the General Assembly adopted on May 10 a resolution affirming Palestine’s right to this membership. This underscores the urgent necessity for a different approach based on a comprehensive and just solution, the newspaper noted.

Al-Watan concluded by saying that the Israeli Prime Minister does not yet have a peace plan for Palestine, and the American stance has not risen to match the international resolutions issued on this matter. What the administration of President Joe Biden has proposed is a political solution to the Palestinian cause based on the Israeli recognition of a demilitarized Palestinian state, but within the context of negotiations with the Palestinians. This means that the outcome of the negotiations will be determined by the stronger party and the one with the reality on the ground, which effectively empties the term ‘state’ of its true meaning.

In another local matter, The Peninsula newspaper praised in its editorial today the
State of Qatars efforts to achieve a balance and harmony between development and protecting the environment, as the State paid special attention to environmental sustainability and conserving nature even as it continues its remarkable growth journey.

The newspaper said in its editorial titled “Environmental Preservation” that environmental sustainability also forms a pillar of the third National Development Strategy (NDS3), along with sustainable economic growth, further improving quality of life and other 2030 goals. The strategy aims to conserve natural resources, protect ecosystems, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and build resilience against future environmental threats.

The paper referred to HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie’s affirmation at the Green Development Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, held in China, that the State of Qatar attaches great importance to green development and harmonising economic and social growth with t
he preservation of the environment and natural resources. He said under QNV 2030, the country seeks to achieve synergy between economic expansion and environmental preservation.

The Peninsula concluded its editorial by noting that the Minister of Environment and Climate Change highlighted that Qatar has launched the National Renewable Energy Strategy, which aligns with its commitment to a greener and more prosperous future. HE said Qatar, as a leading global supplier of natural gas, enjoys a distinguished position that qualifies it to assume a major role in global green development and the transition towards a low-carbon future.
