Doha: In their editorials Thursday, Qatari newspapers highlighted several local and Arab issues, including the State of Qatar’s assertion that resolving and settling armed conflicts through peaceful means is the best and most effective option for maintaining international peace and security and ridding the world of conflicts. They also hailed Qatar’s efforts to fulfill all its obligations as a party to international disarmament treaties.
On the Arab front, the newspapers commended the State of Qatar’s intensive diplomatic efforts to mobilize the international community to compel the Israeli occupation to stop its aggression and comply with international legitimacy decisions. They also highlighted Qatar’s role as a key mediator between Hamas and Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement and a prisoner exchange deal in the Gaza Strip, noting that Doha is hosting a crucial round to end this aggression.
Under the headline “Pioneering Qatari Efforts in International Peace and Security,” Al-Raya newspaper said in its
editorial that based on its consistent policy aimed at the elimination and prohibition of all weapons of mass destruction and its belief in the severe dangers posed by these weapons, the State of Qatar affirms that resolving armed conflicts and settling them through peaceful means is the best and most effective option to maintain international peace and security and to rid the world of conflicts.
The newspaper pointing out that Qatar continues its efforts to fulfill all its obligations as a party to international disarmament treaties, including the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction, and the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, as well as treaties on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
The State of Qatar always emphasizes that achieving tangible progress in the field of international and regional
peace and security requires serious cooperation and commitment amid increasing conflicts and crises that threaten international peace and security. It also calls for intensified efforts to prevent and resolve conflicts and crises and to adhere to international law by implementing international disarmament agreements and limiting the proliferation of weapons, including nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, the paper said.
The paper underlined Qatar’s commitment to cooperating with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) under Article X of the convention on providing training and assistance to States Parties in Asia and other parts of the world to implement programs related to countering chemical weapons and providing protection against the threat of these weapons.
Al-Raya concluded by saying that the OPCW and its Executive Council are important tools and must be effective in achieving international peace and security. Therefore, they bear a significant responsibility to play thei
r primary role in monitoring and ensuring the implementation of states’ obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and related agreements and decisions. Qatar affirms that the continued use of chemical weapons in some countries by governments or entities against innocent civilians still causes suffering and a burden on the international community, and poses a threat to regional and international peace and security.
For its part, Al-Sharq hailed the ongoing intensive diplomatic efforts led by the State of Qatar to achieve a ceasefire and to work towards ending the continuous Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
In its editorial titled “Qatar: Intensive Efforts to Stop Aggression,” the newspaper pointed out that the new brutal massacre committed by Israeli occupation forces is a continuation of the genocide campaigns against the Palestinian people, where at least 29 Palestinians, mostly women and children, were martyred in an airstrike by an occupation aircraft using a guided missile on a group of dis
placed people in Al-Awda School in the town of Abasan, east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. This massacre is a continuation of the massacres committed by the occupation army and comes after six other massacres committed in recent hours.
The paper said that this escalation in the Israeli campaign and the continuation of more war crimes at this time aims to obstruct efforts to reach a ceasefire and end the war that has been ongoing for more than nine months, to prevent the widening circle of violence in the region, and to achieve comprehensive and just peace. It is also a continuation of the occupation’s policy and plans aimed at forcibly displacing the Palestinian people, reinforced by leaflets dropped over Gaza City with a map indicating safe routes to evacuate the entire strip, not just specific areas.
In conclusion, Al-Sharq said that in its consistent and ongoing stance of supporting the Palestinian cause and the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, as well as its efforts to enhance intern
ational peace and security and to prevent the widening circle of violence in the region, the State of Qatar continues its intensive diplomatic movement to mobilize the international community towards obligating the Israeli occupation to stop the aggression and to comply with international legitimacy resolutions. This is also done through its efforts as a key mediator between Hamas and Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement and a prisoner exchange deal in the Gaza Strip, with Doha hosting a decisive round to end this aggression.
