59 Labor MPs Push for UK Government’s Recognition of Palestinian State

London: Fifty-nine Labor MPs on Saturday called on the British government to immediately recognize a Palestinian state. In a letter to Foreign Secretary David Lammy, the lawmakers expressed their concerns over the Israeli Defense Minister’s plan, which they described as a flagrant violation of international law, to forcibly relocate Gaza residents to a camp in Rafah.

According to Jordan News Agency, the MPs urged for several measures to be taken by the UK government. They called for a trade embargo on West Bank settlements and increased support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Additionally, they demanded the release of hostages and the prevention of the Rafah displacement plan.

The MPs cautioned that the British government’s ongoing delay in recognizing Palestine could undermine its commitment to the two-state solution. They stressed the importance of immediate action to uphold international law and support a peaceful resolution in the region.
