ZINC concludes Climate Change Hackathon

The Zain Innovation Campus (ZINC) has concluded the 2022 Climate Change Hackathon, which aimed at finding innovative solutions to current environmental challenges in agriculture, energy, water, and solid waste by leveraging artificial intelligence and digital fabrication technologies.

The Hackathon was launched in July in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

“Two projects (Recycle of CO2) and (FarmJo) were selected to receive a cash prize of JD5,000 each, and a year-long of logistic support for project implementation”, a statement by Zain said on Tuesday.

In addition, the winning projects will sign agreements to join ZINC’s platform, which supports more than 220 companies and startups.

The Recycle of CO2 project focuses on recycling carbon dioxide, produced by factories, by means of a filter that forces it to react with ammonia and produce organic fertilizer.

FarmJo project is based on introducing modern technology into the agricultural sector, by providing a mobile application and a website that connects farmers with consumers.
