Yarmouk University president, Canadian envoy discuss cooperation

President of Yarmouk University, Islam Massad, on Monday met with Canada’s Ambassador to Jordan, Donica Pottie, on ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides.

In the meeting, attended by Director of the Immigration Program at the Embassy, Sarah Erlichman, Massad talked about the university’s future aspirations to develop more specializations to be attractive to students from different countries of the world, as well as the university’s specialized scientific centers which enjoy an advanced scientific reputation at local and regional levels.

Massad commended the permanent cooperation between Yarmouk and the Canadian embassy and the support provided by the Canadian government to a number of scientific and research projects implemented by the university, such as the Deir Alla station for archaeological studies and the leading female academics network, which had a positive impact on the educational and research process at the university.

He pointed out that the university’s Refugees, Displaced Persons and Forced Migration Studies Center is about to launch a new strategy of its own aimed at strengthening cooperation with supporting international organizations and bodies, providing the opportunity for faculty members, researchers and students at the university to conduct studies and research related to refugees and migration from various aspects.

Pottie, for her part, voiced the embassy’s readiness to consolidate its existing cooperation with the Yarmouk University by facilitatating cooperation between Canadian universities and the Yarmouk University in various fields, pointing out that the Canadian government supports a program of cooperation between Canadian universities and various universities worldwide.

She said that the Yarmouk University could benefit from the Expo 2022 program for universities in this field, as there is a number of Canadian university delegates participating in this program who are interested in concluding cooperation agreements with various universities.
