Irbid: Yarmouk University and the Greater Irbid Municipality have engaged in discussions concerning a potential international project under the European Union's Horizon program. This initiative aims to enhance local governance, public services, community participation, accountability, and trust between local institutions and the community.
According to Jordan News Agency, the proposed project intends to bolster the capabilities of local institutions and create evidence- and data-based tools and indicators. These tools are designed to aid decision-making and planning, thus improving local administration's responsiveness to community needs.
The discussions occurred during a meeting between a delegation from Yarmouk University's Department of International Relations and Projects and the Chairman of the Greater Irbid Municipality Committee, Imad Azzam. Key participants included department director Rashid Jaradat, deputy director Abdul Moneim Rawashdeh, and Tamara Yaqoub from the Department of Public Administration at the Faculty of Business.
In a statement released on Monday, the university reported that the discussions covered the project concept, objectives, proposed areas of work, and the municipality's role as a local partner in implementing the Jordanian case study in collaboration with the university.
The partnership aims to leverage academic and research expertise in public services, regulation, planning, and community engagement. Jaradat emphasized the significance of expanding cooperation between the university and municipality into applied projects and programs that utilize specialized academic and research expertise.
He highlighted that Yarmouk University's involvement in international projects facilitates knowledge exchange, fosters international research cooperation, and allows the application of research findings to address local challenges, improve service development, and enhance governance.
