Amman:A consultative workshop was held by the Foundation for the Development of Lands Adjacent to the Baptism Site in collaboration with the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN). The event aimed to present an environmental assessment and ecological restoration framework and to discuss proposals to enhance biodiversity and protect ecosystems in the area.
According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop gathered representatives from UNESCO, various ministries, the Jordan Valley Authority, and multiple international and local organizations to gather technical feedback on the study. The goal is to ensure the proposed framework balances development and environmental conservation while complying with international standards.
RSCN specialists presented findings from field surveys, highlighting the area's environmental value and challenges such as invasive plant species. The restoration plan includes measures like removing invasive species, replanting native flora, creating ecological corridors, and establishing a long-term monitoring program.
Tharwat Musalha, Chair of the Foundation, emphasized the importance of preserving the area's natural environment due to its religious and historical significance. He noted the study's role in supporting environmentally responsible development that aligns with the Baptism Site's World Heritage status.
RSCN Board Chairperson Batoul Ajlouni stressed the importance of partnerships in biodiversity conservation, reflecting the society's commitment to preserving areas of environmental and cultural importance. Participants agreed to refine the environmental framework based on workshop feedback before its implementation.
