Accra:Under the patronage of HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal, President of the Arab Thought Forum, a lecture was hosted featuring British historian William Dalrymple. The event, attended by HRH Princess Sarvath El Hassan, HRH Princess Rahma bint El Hassan, and several members of the royal family, former ministers, and intellectuals, explored the rise of the British East India Company and its transformation into a political and military power in the Indian subcontinent.
According to Jordan News Agency, the lecture, titled "The Irresistible Rise of the East India Company Contemporary Lessons in Dealing with Hyper-Powerful Corporations," focused on the implications of economic interests intertwining with political authority. Dalrymple highlighted the influence of mega-corporations on global power dynamics and the importance of regulatory frameworks in balancing corporate interests with public welfare.
The discussion drew parallels between historical events and modern challenges, particularly the impact of multinational corporations and their relationship with governance institutions. Dalrymple, an expert on the Indian subcontinent and East-West relations, and author of *The Anarchy The Relentless Rise of the East India Company*, concluded the lecture with an open discussion on corporate influence in today's global politics and economics.
