Water minister, Egyptian counterpart discuss challenges

The Minister of Water and Irrigation Mohamed Najjar and the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel-Ati discussed Monday means to enhance cooperation to address water challenges.

The meeting, which was held in Cairo on the sidelines of the Cairo Water Week, tackled the water challenges facing the region and many Arab countries as a result of several factors, as well as means to enhance cooperation to address them, especially in light of climate change, which has impacted water resources.

According to a press statement, the two sides stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination to achieve the two countries’ sustainable water development goals and optimal management of the two countries’ limited water resources.

Najjar reviewed the Jordanian government’s efforts to reduce water scarcity challenges and implement important water projects, commending the Egyptian efforts to make the Cairo Water Week a success. The minister also lauded Egypt’s water-related achievements and efforts to conserve water.

Noteworthy, the Cairo Water Week is being held from 24-28 October in Cairo under the title “Water, Population and Global Changes: Challenges and Opportunities,” with the participation of about 1,000 people, 300 international speakers, 50 organizations working in the water sector.
