Balqa: The Water Authority wrapped up its first home plumbing training program under the Water Wise Women initiative, targeting women from Balqa Governorate in its first phase.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Water Ministry announced that the program was implemented in collaboration with the Skilled Hands Association and Future Pioneers for Empowering Communities, with financial backing from the World Bank. Participants in the program received both practical and theoretical instruction on a variety of topics, including detecting and repairing household leaks, maintaining sanitary fixtures, handling minor home water network faults, and reducing water waste.
Omar Salameh, the Ministry's Spokesperson, emphasized that basic home maintenance skills are crucial for curbing water loss from undetected or untreated household leaks. He noted that such programs promote shared responsibility for protecting national water resources. Salameh further stated that the program aims to equip women with practical water-related skills, thereby strengthening their role in conservation both at home and within the community. Additionally, it supports their economic empowerment, particularly by enabling them to obtain a professional practice certificate.
The training initiative is part of a broader series targeting local women, refugees, and persons with disabilities across Jordan. The goal is to help communities reduce water loss and support sustainable water use, highlighting the importance of inclusive participation in resource conservation efforts.
