Voting Begins in Cambodia Elections

Voting started on Sunday morning in Cambodia’s national assembly election, with 18 political parties contesting 125 seats.

More than 9.7 million people are registered to vote in the seventh election since the United Nations first sponsored polls in 1993.

Alongside the incumbent and ruling Peoples Party (CPP), 17 small parties are also running in the election, though none has the popular support to present a serious challenge to Prime Minister Hun Sens leadership. His party is expected to keep all 125 seats in the countrys national assembly.

Preliminary results are expected to be announced this evening and tomorrow, while the official results will be announced on August 9.
