Vocational and Technical Education Crucial for Labor Market Needs, Says Education Ministry

Amman: The 9th Arab Conference on Professional Training, under the theme “The Vocational and Technical Education and Training Pathway within the Framework of Arab and International Qualifications,” commenced at the Amman Chamber of Commerce headquarters. The conference draws significant participation from educational institutions, professional bodies, and business sectors across the Arab region.

According to Jordan News Agency, the event is organized by the Jordanian Trainers Society in collaboration with the Amman Chamber of Commerce and the Arab Trainers Union. It targets decision-makers, education policy officials, and various stakeholders in the Arab region. Dr. Mohammad Ghaith, Secretary-General for Vocational and Technical Education, representing the Jordanian Minister of Education, highlighted the impact of rapid global changes on the education and training sectors. He emphasized the necessity of aligning educational outcomes with labor market demands and updating curricula and programs within modern national and international frameworks.

Dr. Ghaith underscored the importance of the vocational and technical track in meeting labor market criteria and fostering entrepreneurship. He advocated for the integration of technical skills with critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning. The Ministry of Education has shown significant commitment to vocational and technical education by introducing a new program in 2023 that expanded vocational specializations in schools to 12, with plans for future expansion to meet market needs.

Hosting the forum in Jordan, Dr. Ghaith remarked, underscores the country’s role in promoting joint Arab initiatives and offers a platform to develop shared visions and enhance the vocational training system according to international standards. He expressed confidence that the forum’s recommendations will lead to practical initiatives supporting sustainable development across the Arab world.
