US to send additional military trainers to Taiwan: Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal Thursday cited US officials, who were not named, that the US is planning to “significantly” increase its military personnel to train Taiwanese forces.

The newspaper said the US army would send between 100 and 200 soldiers in the coming months to the island for training in the use of American weapons and manoeuvres, while their number does not currently exceed 30.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen Tuesday announced, after a meeting with US legislators, that the island would strengthen its military ties with the US to curb “authoritarian expansion.”
