US medical delegation visits Jordan University Hospital

Director-General of Jordan University Hospital, Jamal Melhem, on Tuesday received a US medical delegation that included Consultant Pediatric Cardiologist at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Pierre Wong and representatives of the Gift of Life International organization and the Chain of Hope.

The meeting discussed enabling prospects for cooperation between the two hospitals in the field of performing surgeries for children suffering from congenital heart defects.

Melhem commended this human pattern of medical cooperation and opportunities for exchanging expertise in this medical field. He stressed the importance of the continuity of such initiatives, which pave the way for a large medical institution, such as the University of Jordan Hospital, to have a humanitarian role in providing treatment, especially for sick children who do not have the ability to bear the costs of treatment.

For his part, pediatric cardiologist at the hospital, Iyad Al-Ammouri, said that, in continuation to the series of surgical campaigns that reached (10) campaigns carried out by the hospital over the past years in cooperation with US, British and Italian medical teams, two campaigns will be implemented during the current year that include performing a number of surgeries for a group of children suffering from congenital heart diseases, such as malformations and ventricular septal defects (VSD).

The delegation toured the operating rooms, the Pediatric Intensive Care Department, and the Pediatric Cardiology and Catheterization Clinic.
