The US State Department on Monday said that the US military has secured the vicinity of Kabul Airport, and that the US embassy in Kabul has been completely evacuated, and the US flag has been taken down from the embassy’s site, according to the Washington Post.
“All our embassy personnel are in the building of Hamid Karzai International Airport, around which the US military secures,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement, hours after the Taliban took control of the city.
“We are currently taking a series of measures to secure Hamid Karzai Airport, in order to allow the safe departure of American personnel and their allies from Afghanistan on civilian and military flights,” US Departments of State and Defense said earlier in a joint statement.
