Islamabad: The President of the University of Jordan (UJ), Nathir Obeidat, participated on Wednesday in the General Assembly Conference of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) held in Islamabad.
According to Jordan News Agency, Obeidat, accompanied by UJ Vice Presidents for Scientific Faculties, Ashraf Abu Karky, and for Humanities Faculties, Nahed Emaish, highlighted UJ’s advancements in global academic rankings. He discussed the institution’s efforts in enhancing education quality and revising academic programs.
Obeidat also outlined several initiatives introduced by UJ aimed at developing student skills and aligning academic programs with labor market needs. He emphasized the implementation of career preparation programs and other measures designed to secure a promising future for the institution.
Coordinator General of COMSTECH, Iqbal Choudhary, acknowledged UJ’s role in attracting scientists seeking expertise and knowledge. He praised its success in hosting visiting and honorary professors and the institution’s commitment to leveraging international expertise in research, teaching, and innovation.
Choudhary noted that UJ’s contributions are crucial in transforming ideas into projects that drive economic growth and knowledge production.
The Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) was established in 1981 during the third session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The President of Pakistan chairs the committee, which is tasked with promoting collaboration among OIC member states in science and technology, enhancing capabilities through training in modern fields, implementing OIC decisions, and developing programs to strengthen the scientific and technological capacities of Islamic countries.
