Beirut: The leadership of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has voiced serious concern regarding recent attacks on the Lebanese Army that have occurred within the nation’s borders. These incidents come despite UNIFIL’s non-involvement in the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
According to Jordan News Agency, in a statement issued on Monday, UNIFIL highlighted that such assaults on the Lebanese Armed Forces within Lebanese territory represent a clear breach of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as international humanitarian law, which explicitly forbids violence against those not engaged in active hostilities.
The statement further expressed UNIFIL’s deep worry over the escalating conflict, which has resulted in widespread destruction and significant loss of life along the Blue Line. UNIFIL called on all parties embroiled in the conflict to seek resolutions through dialogue and negotiations rather than resorting to violence.
