UNICEF and EU Sign £7 Million Agreements to Bolster Education and Child Protection in Jordan

Amman: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the European Union (EU) have entered into two agreements amounting to £7 million aimed at improving access to inclusive and quality education, as well as enhancing child protection and psychosocial support services for the most vulnerable children and adolescents in Jordan.

According to Jordan News Agency, the renewed partnership will aid learning recovery and skills development for children across the Kingdom, including Syrian refugees, by delivering integrated services through Makani centers.

More than 30,000 children are expected to benefit from these safe learning environments and essential services, which are designed to help them stay in education, re-engage in learning, and acquire future-oriented skills. Makani centers, which operate in refugee camps and marginalized communities in remote areas, offer integrated education support, child protection services, skills development programs, and psychosocial support to provide comprehensive care for children and adolescents.

European Union Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas stated that the agreements demonstrate the EU's ongoing commitment to supporting the most vulnerable children in Jordan. He emphasized the importance of investing in the future of Jordan and Syria and providing the new generation with necessary support.

UNICEF Representative to Jordan Marc Rubin noted that the expanded partnership with the EU enables UNICEF and its national partners to offer crucial support to children and adolescents in hard-to-reach areas and vulnerable communities across the Kingdom. He highlighted that this collaboration enhances inclusive and protective pathways in line with the Government of Jordan's commitment to advancing children's rights.

Through these agreements, the European Union and UNICEF have reaffirmed their joint dedication to achieving sustainable and long-term impacts for the most vulnerable populations, with a focus on ensuring quality education and protection for every child in Jordan.
