UN says Israeli ‘flag march’ ‘provocative’; warns violence

The United Nations Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wencesland, Saturday urged all parties in the Israeli occupied Palestinian territories to exercise restraint to avoid a conflict that could cost lives.

Wencesland warned in a Security Council briefing on the developments in the Middle East of the repercussions of the so-called “provocative” flags’ march planned to take place in the Muslim neighbourhood in the Old City tomorrow, Sunday.

According to the official website of the UN, Wencesland said in a statement that the message of the international community is to avoid such an escalation, highlighting his efforts to communicate with all parties to address the issue.

He added that 10 Palestinians, including a woman and three children, were killed during the last period, emphasising “there is no justification for acts of terrorism or violence against civilians.” He called on everyone to condemn such acts.
