New york: The Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, has issued a strong appeal to the international community to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. He emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians who are being arbitrarily detained, implement the provisional measures of the International Court of Justice, and halt ongoing military actions.
According to Jordan News Agency, Fletcher highlighted in his statement that the current situation, marked by death, destruction, famine, and displacement of Palestinian civilians, stems from actions taken by Israel that defy international law. He criticized these actions as a blatant disregard for the international community’s calls for peace and adherence to legal norms.
Fletcher drew attention to the recent eviction orders issued by the Israeli army targeting Palestinians in Gaza City. This development, he noted, occurs in the context of a two-week period of confirmed famine, exacerbated by an intensive military assault. He expressed grave concerns about the potential spread of famine to other areas, including Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, stating that the likelihood of preventing such an outcome is very slim.
