Aqaba: Minister of Transport, Nidal Katamine, visited the Jordan Maritime Commission (JMC) and the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC)'s branch office in Aqaba to assess ongoing operations and address challenges, as per a statement from the ministry.
According to Jordan News Agency, the purpose of the visit was to evaluate development plans aimed at enhancing the national transport network's efficiency and upgrading public services. Katamine highlighted the essential role of transport institutions in bolstering Jordan's economy and its position as a regional logistics hub, stressing the importance of continuous modernization in line with the Economic Modernization Vision.
At the JMC, Katamine reviewed significant development projects and commended efforts that have improved maritime operations and corporate performance. He also recognized Omar Al-Dabbas for his contributions as the outgoing director general, acknowledging his impact on the maritime sector and the commission's standing.
In his visit to the LTRC office, the minister addressed public transport challenges, examining achievements and plans for service upgrades, route enhancements, and new introductions to accommodate residents and visitors. Katamine engaged with service users and transport operators to discuss their needs, urging officials to address these through established channels.
He emphasized the importance of stakeholder coordination to make Aqaba a model for public transport, potentially replicable across other Jordanian regions. The minister reiterated the ministry's commitment to automating public transport services, highlighting the deployment of surveillance cameras, electronic vehicle tracking, and electronic payment systems to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
