Dammam, The Transport General Authority (TGA), in cooperation with the Eastern Region Municipality and the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO), in Dammam today launched the electric bus, as part of the public transport projects in the Dammam metropolitan area and Al-Qatif Governorate.
The ceremony was attended by the Acting President of the TGA, Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, and the Deputy Secretary of the Eastern Region, Eng. Muhammad Al-Husseini.
The TGA noted that the bus is designed according to the latest standardsand is equipped with features combining efficiency, comfort and modern technologies. The bus has 37 comfortable seats with a 420kW high-efficiency battery that allows it to work for up to 18 hours continuously across 73 trips per day. It enables it to travel up to 300 kilometres per one charge. It is also equipped with WIFI and USB ports, keeping pace with passengers’ needs.
The launch of the electric bus within the public bus transport project in the Dammam metropolitan area and Al-Qatif Governorate includes 85 buses and eight lanes covering 218 stops and a distance of 400 kilometres of the metropolitan area.
The project aims to promote a public transport culture that supports the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy by increasing the percentage of public transport users to 15% by 2030, providing faster and easier transport options, reducing carbon emissions, and contributing to improving quality of life.
