Traffic Department Cracks Down on License Plate Tampering

Amman: The Traffic Department has apprehended several vehicles whose drivers were found to have tampered with their license plates, using automated surveillance tools. Legal and administrative measures have been taken against the violators.

According to Jordan News Agency, the department emphasized that altering license plates by scratching, smudging, inking, covering, or using any form of modification indicates criminal intent and constitutes a serious traffic offense that endangers public road safety.

It also noted that the Public Security Directorate possesses advanced technical capabilities that enable it to identify vehicles and track their complete information, allowing for swift and appropriate enforcement actions.

Under recent amendments to the Traffic Law, tampering with vehicle license plates is punishable by imprisonment for a period of no less than one month and up to three months, or a fine ranging from JD250 to JD500, or both. Administrative action against the vehicle is also applied.
