Telecom Regulator Issues Alert on Increasing Online Fraud Attempts

Amman: Jordan Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) on Tuesday warned the public against online scam attempts, urging citizens to avoid clicking on suspicious links sent by unknown sources or others impersonating official entities.

According to Jordan News Agency, the TRC issued a statement advising the public to abstain from engaging with fake or unverified shopping offers and to refrain from responding to any requests to transfer money or share personal information. This advisory comes amid a noticeable rise in online fraud attempts targeting citizens.

The TRC also highlighted the growing threat posed by scammers' phone calls that mimic the voice of a family member requesting money transfers. It warned that such calls can be generated by artificial intelligence technologies. To combat this, the TRC advised individuals to verify the authenticity of such requests by calling back the person directly.
