Statistics Department Reports 60 Percent Completion of Census Enumeration Phase

Irbid: The Department of Statistics announced that the enumeration phase of the 2026 General Population and Housing Census has reached 60 percent completion. The work is anticipated to conclude by mid-July, with preparations underway for the actual counting phase scheduled for the latter part of the year.

According to Jordan News Agency, the announcement was made during a coordination meeting in Irbid, held at the permanent production exhibition hall for rural products. The meeting was attended by Department Director General Haider Freihat, Assistant Governor for Development Rami Obeidat, members of the governorate's executive council, and representatives from relevant institutions.

Freihat emphasized that the census is a crucial national project that aids in evidence-based planning and decision-making at both national and local levels. It also plays a role in shaping economic and social development policies. He highlighted that the total cost of the census project stands at JD 24 million, with preparations starting last year. These preparations include providing equipment and logistical requirements for all phases to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Freihat also highlighted the importance of cooperation with field researchers to ensure data accuracy, which supports planning in population, housing, economic, social, and health sectors. He reassured that census data are protected by law and treated with strict confidentiality. Field researchers are verified through official identification cards containing electronic barcode authentication.

Obeidat confirmed that Irbid Governorate and its departments are fully prepared to support the census, ensuring its success according to the highest standards of accuracy and quality. The meeting reviewed ongoing preparations and coordination efforts among official bodies to ensure the smooth implementation of all census phases and the accuracy and comprehensiveness of statistical data.
