SSC: Ultimatum to subscribe foreign workers in ‘Badir’ Program ends next October

The Social Security Corporation (SSC) announced its intention to alter the deadline to benefit from “Badir”: “Take the Initiative,” program aimed to bring yet-unsubscribed foreign workers under the SSC’s umbrella to end of next October instead of December, 2021.

The SSC, in a press statement Thursday, said “Badir” program, which was launched under Defense Order No. 14 of 2020 and its amendments, allows establishments to subscribe their employees with “immediate” effect without subscription payments for previous work periods.

Under the the SSC’s decision, businesses are allowed to benefit from the corporation’s services from the inspection date.

Altering the subscription deadline to foreign workers aims to align with government measures to regulate the labor market and in direct coordination with the Ministry of Labor, the statement said.

If the establishment fails to register its foreign workers before next October 31, subscription to benefit from SSC’s coverage will begin when the expat worker joined the facility, which would require payment of subscriptions for the previous periods, according to the statement.

This failure would also incur payment of delay interests and fines according to the provisions of the Social Security Law, in addition to imposing a lump sum fine for each worker at JD1,000, the SSC added.
