Amman: The Service and Public Administration Commission (SPAC) has introduced new guidelines for job vacancy announcements in public sector institutions, aiming to streamline recruitment procedures while ensuring fairness, equality, and transparency in accordance with relevant legislation.
According to Jordan News Agency, SPAC’s statement, released on Saturday, stipulates that job requirements should not specify conditions such as age, gender, academic grade, or professional experience unless these are justified by essential duties or binding conditions from local or international entities. Any such requirements must be included in the institution’s approved recruitment plan, with competency assessments and interviews considered adequate for evaluating candidates.
The guidelines specify that if age is a criterion, only the year of birth should be listed, omitting the day and month. Standard employment prerequisites like medical fitness are to be excluded from job postings, as candidates will undergo medical examinations upon appointment. Additionally, the guidelines prohibit disqualifying applicants already employed in the public sector.
Job announcements are required to clearly state the necessary academic qualifications, specifying whether they pertain to a major or minor, especially for administrative and engineering roles based on Jordan Engineers Association criteria.
SPAC has emphasized that applicants should not be required to submit identification documents such as national IDs or family books, since its recruitment platform is integrated with the Civil Status and Passports Department’s database. A police clearance certificate is necessary only at the final hiring stage, and applicants may provide a scanned copy of their certified academic degree instead of an official hard copy.
Applications must be submitted through the commission-managed external recruitment platform, available at www.spac.gov.jo. Institutions are required to use the standardized vacancy announcement templates provided on the same site.
SPAC has also mandated that shortlisted candidates be notified of interviews at least five working days in advance through phone calls and online postings. The original job posting date must be referenced in the interview invitations, and final candidates should be informed via government portals, institutional websites, phone calls, text messages, or messaging apps.
